22nd Jun 2019 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

A Tudor Revel – Dances, fantasies and other instrumental music for Court and Tavern from sixteenth century England.

The arrival of the Tudor dynasty in 1485 led to a period of greater stability and wealth, which was reflected in the flourishing of the arts and music. Composers and instrumentalists were much in demand at the royal courts, the great households of the land, and in the employment of the city councils, as civic Waits.

The York Waits revived the band that existed in their city during the 1500s, and perform on many of the instruments that are listed in accounts of the time – shawms, sackbuts, curtal, recorders, crumhorns, bagpipes, fiddles, harp, pipe and tabor, Their programme reflects the development in secular music during the reigns of Henry VII, Henry VIII, and Elizabeth I, and includes Pavans, Galliards, Branles, Fantasies and Divisions on Grounds such as Greensleeves.

Tickets £14 to include a complimentary glass of wine.
