Thackley v Harrogate Railway Athletic.
Northern Counties East League Premier Division – Saturday 16th March – Kick off 3.00pm.
Thackley return to the Mitton Group Stadium at Dennyfield on Saturday to take on Harrogate Railway, a team that are currently second from bottom of the table. They are one of three clubs that have let a small point’s gap open up on the teams above them. With two teams facing the drop this season, ‘The Rail’ will be looking to take maximum points from the game. Harrogate have managed just three wins and nine draws thus far, accumulating eighteen points in total this season. One of those draws being the reverse fixture at Station View in October, goals from Sean Hunter and Aaron Kitao were cancelled out by Luke Robinson and Nicky Matthews.
Since their return from the Northern Premier League in 2016 the teams have met in the league five times, Thackley having the better record with three victories, as well as this season’s stalemate. Harrogate have won just one of their five games since the beginning of February, an home victory against Athersley Recreation. Last Saturday they were narrowly beaten by Albion Sports at Throstle Nest.
Thackley will be looking to get back to the sort of form they showed in the final fifteen minutes of their last home game against Eccleshill. Scoring four times and playing with great determination to overcome a two goal deficit. On Saturday they went down to a Maltby side that adapted much better to the difficult conditions and benefitted from a couple of rather suspect refereeing decisions. In was a poor performance, perhaps as bad as any this season, it would be surprising for Thackley to play as badly this weekend.
Although not statistically safe, Thackley will be looking for all three points to ensure their Premier Division status for next season. It is pretty obvious why Harrogate will want to grab maximum points, their Premier Division life depends on it.
Following the amount of rain that has fallen in the last few days and the forecast of more on Saturday, there is the possibility of a pitch inspection tomorrow morning. Check with the website for updates.
