Silsden v Thackley – Match Preview.

Northern Counties East League Premier Division – Tuesday 20th August – Kick off 7.45pm.

It will be a first for Thackley when they travel to the Cobbydale Construction Stadium on Tuesday night for the game against Silsden. Never before have the two met in a league game, they have faced each other in cup competitions and at both Under 21 and Under 19 level. This is because Silsden have been playing their step 5 football in the North West Counties League, that was until the end of last season when they were moved to the NCEL at the beginning of this. After a less than impressive pre season, played five, lost five, they have started this year’s competitive campaign well, winning their opening two league games against Penistone and Maltby. In mid week they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Northwich Victoria by the odd goal in seven, but this was after drawing at the Vics the previous Saturday.

This will be the second time that Thackley travel away from Dennyfield this season, their first away encounter was at Bridlington where they came away with a point in a competitive six goal game. A disastrous FA Cup exit against Handsworth was followed by last Saturday’s defeat against Goole, the Dennyboys never recovering from a slow start against the Vikings. They created quite a few chances to get something from the game but were unable to convert any.

Thackley will be going to Silsden looking for their first victory of the season, whilst the Cobbydalers will be hoping to maintain their winning run. It looks like being an interesting first league meeting between the two sides.
